This wedding was very special for me. I was NOT the photographer for this wedding. I was the maid of honor, but any photographer knows that it is NOT possible to put your camera down when your baby cousin is getting married EVEN if you are the maid of honor!
When I showed up to the hotel to get my hair and make-up done Melanie was already in the process of getting hers done. She looked breathtaking, as I knew she would. I loved taking pictures of all the little details that goes into a wedding day. My niece was the flower girl and that girl LOVES princesses and so she had a blast helping the princess get ready for her big day!
Melanie and Cory were married at Cory's parent's house in their back yard next to an old barn. It was so beautiful. I asked Mel if there was any quick photos she would like to do before the wedding and she said she wanted to walk up behind him and surprise him and get some pictures of it. There was one problem, the mother of the groom said she would kill her son if he looked at her before the wedding! So I took matters into my own hands! I pulled Cory out to the side of the house and told Melanie I would knock on her window when I was ready for her. She came outside and snuck up behind Cory and held his hands. He wanted to look at her so bad, but I threatened him. I snapped some quick pics of them holding hands and Melanie with her BIG purple balloons and sent her back in. On the way back into the house I asked Cory if he was nervous and here was his response "I am marrying Melanie. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her. I am more anxious to get this thing going so I can call her my wife." I had just met Cory that morning so it warmed my heart to know that he cared so deeply for my cousin.
The ceremony was beautiful. This was my favorite part....imagine 4 or 5 little boys standing where the aisle is about to begin holding on to several HUGE purple balloons. Then the song Marry Me by Train starts, the little boys let go of those balloons, and behind them is BEAUTIFUL Melanie with a huge grin on her face. HOLY COW....I have chills and tears in my eyes as I write this (and of course I am listening to the song too!)
The wedding was a small event with just family and close friends. Earlier in the day we had a family reunion (I know, we are crazy) and all of the cousins, some we had just met, some we met years ago, all came to the wedding. It was so much fun. We danced all night and had a blast.
At the end of the night we let go of wish lanterns. So romantic right?!?! Well Melanie and Cory let the first one go and it landed on the roof. So just imagine a lantern with lots of fire coming out of it sitting on your roof. As we all cheered for the lantern to take off, reality sunk in for Cory's dad and I am pretty sure he went to get the ladder!! Finally the lantern took off into the sky and many more followed. It was so beautiful.
Cory and Melanie, marriage is going to be like that first lantern you let go of. There will be bumps in the road, some things don't happen right away or the way you want them to, but be patient and always make sure you are each others biggest cheer section.
I love you both and I am so happy for you. It was an honor to be a part of your special day.
