Today is my sweet boy's 7th birthday! I can't believe he is already 7 years old. I feel like we just got him yesterday!!
I will never forget the day we got Cosby. It was September and in June we had lost our black lab, Dakota (Mr. D). I did not want a dog at all. I was still so upset about losing Dakota. Mike and I had gone to World Market to look at some furniture or something. Next door was Petland. Every time we would go to World Market I always had to run into Petland to look at the dogs. On this day there was a beautiful 5 month old yellow lab sitting in one of the cages. The worker came over and asked if we wanted to get him out and play with him....yeah, why not!! Well, it was instant love! He was so calm and sweet so we bought him.
Side Note: NEVER, I repeat, NEVER buy an animal from Petland. At the time I had never heard of a puppy mill and so I had no idea that's where the animals sold there came from. My dad got on to me for getting a dog from a store because he said they come from puppy mills. I had no idea what that even ment and so I looked it up on youtube. It makes me so sad to think my sweet boy came from one of those awful places.
Ok, back to Cosby....if you have ever had a lab puppy before you will understand what I am about to say. It didn't take me long to fall out of love with Cosby and really, to be honest, I think I hated him!! He chewed up our screened in porch...literally the walls and screens, chewed the siding off of our house, chewed up the carpet in the screened in porch, chewed up the cable to the TV in the screened in porch...not sure why he hated the screened in porch so much! I took him to obedience school. Pretty sure he flunked. When they would say "Ok, let's walk in a circle, start walking to your left" Cosby went to the right and I was being pulled right behind. I remember leaving in tears after the first night! He was a total MESS! I started reading the book Marley and Me and it made me feel better that I wasn't alone!
Once Cosby turned 2 he became the perfect dog....well, not perfect, but pretty darn good! He has the occasional slip up of eating cat poop or 5 tampons and getting so sick we have to force pedialyte down his throat. We have been trying to get him to not sleep on the bed for 7 years now without any luck. That's our fault though, once he starts doing it we miss him and invite him back! But all in all he is AMAZING and I can't imagine what I would do without him.
He has the softest ears in the world
His feet smell like Doritos
He can sit, speak, lay down, give five, give HIGH five, and turn in a circle
He is my protector when my husband is out of town
He sleeps in a circle we like to call the "cinnamon roll"
He thinks he won the lottery if you say the words...treat, wanna go for a ride, walk, or are you hungry
He is one of the most beautiful labs I have ever seen in my life
He is my baby and I love him with all my heart
Happy Birthday Cosby!
